This is just a note to thank you for contacting me about the consultation on a proposed ban on the sales of raw milk

You may be aware that at the end of January it was announced that green top milk would continue to be available subject to tighter checks to ensure that it is safe to drink. These include increased frequency of official microbiological testing of samples of raw milk to four times per year official inspections of registered raw cows' milk premises will now be inspected once per year.

It is thanks to your letters that this compromise has been found.

New regulations will need to be drawn up. A consultation on the draft regulations will take place. If you wish to see a copy of these, do let me know and I will forward a copy to you when they are published.
