Artifacts from the Golden Age of Radio 1
It's a Con wall clock - about 9" diameter. I made a pulse unit out of a mains 1rpm motor (from Totty Ct Rd.!) with a 45single attached. Icut 30 notches around the circumference and had a roller arm micro switchclicking against it! With the changeover contacts and 2 batteries thesystem produced 60 alternate positive and negative pulses per minute.
Nutcase!
The red phone was the PBX phone in the presenter's bit of the con. There were white lights by the clock which said PBX & PABX - the PBX ones were always answered immediately as they were screened by the person on theswitchboard and were deemed to be important! ...hence the red phone. ThePABX phone was black I think. The PBX extensions were (eg)003,004,005,006,007, etc....
If the presenter wanted to dail somewhere he/she would pick up the blackphone and dial -- if it was important he would pick up the red phone and the PBX operator would answer immediately and get it for him/her!
How is it I can remember all this stuff but I can't remember what I did yesterday! Old age I think. Chris Weird
