This dance is in memory of Frank Baldwin, 1932 - 1997, drummer and monologist, who contributed much fun and laughter to our parties. Frank had a cobbler's business in Crosshills for many years, and the moves in this dance are named after cobbling terms.
The shape of the dance is strikingly different from all our others, including moves based on a molly hey, a pousette, and spirals.
The tune sounds like one of the many traditional morris tunes hijacked by the church as a hymn. It should do, it was written that way by Paul Hudson. The A part is a declamatory or heroic march, played in quite a clipped style. The B part, with its repeated descending scales offers rich opportunities for harmonies which are mercilessly exploited by the band. To increase the general gaiety of nations we've included a complicated drumming pattern and stupidly placed rests at the junction of the A and the B
